It is always nice to hear that Spring is fast approaching even though winter has not been a hard one this year.

In the spirit of renewal, the studio will undergo a change of scenery today. The Angel set is going up in anticipation for tomorrow's sessions.

Part of her "Growing Baby" - "My First Year" These are her 9 months photos.

I made sure we shot on white at each photo session since the beginning "Growing Belly" session so we can design a storyboard that would include a photo from each of the 6 sessions.

Only one more session to go. Her 12 months. Cannot believe how fast this has gone by !

Good WINTER morning!

Hello everyone,

What a beautiful winter wonderland scene this morning...

It was not fun driving to work though, even for my little 3 minute commute. I hope everyone got to work safely. the roads are getting better now but still be cautious.

The calls to redeem their vouchers have started to come in. The wood's fairy is number one on the charts... It is on of the themes scheduled during March Break

Remember, it's first come first serve and there are only so many sessions available per theme. We could allow for more sessions per day, but being the only photographer here, I like to give a very personal service to each and every little one who comes to play on my sets :)

The buck-off feature is on for 2 more days. I will keep you posted at the end on how many deals sold.

March break preps already?

Yesterday, I was talking with a Mom about March break... Already? well yes, if there are tickets to buy or reservations to be made, it's time to book now because you might not find what you want if you wait too long.

She had a point.

This is why I decided to offer three different Tattle Tales themes during March break week. And if you take action now, you can buy your session for up to 3 children through the buck-off promo for only $69 and that includes prints.

DON'T DELAY, buy your voucher, then call the studio and reserve your session or sessions. There are no limits. And each vouchers qualifies you for one session and the print package with it. But remember, first come first serve.

I do not know how many vouchers sold up until now, but I know there are only 3 days left...

First Tattle Tales sessions to book

A little reminder for all who already bought Buck-Off Vouchers.
You can look up the planned sessions dates on our calendar.
The first sessions start on Fridday. This theme is"Starry Night". The next one after that is the "Angels on a cloud" on February 11th and so on. The calendar is planned until October 2012.
You have lots to choose from. The sessions are reserved on a first come first served basis and there are a limited number of sessions per theme. Keep in mind that most themes will not be featured again this year.

It Really Was A Pleasure!

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to let you all know that today is my last day in the co-op program, and also my last day as part of the Your Eye On Photo Team. I just wanted to express my deepest gratitude to Desiree and her family for making me feel so welcome and involved with their day to day activities. Also, thank you all for being so supportive and liking all my posts on Facebook! Everything is all greatly appreciated, and I hope that the wind will be at your back for all your future adventures in life. Having the opportunity to work here was unbelievable and I could not be more grateful than I am.

It truly is an adventure here at Your Eye On Photo, and being a small part of that was a blessing. I encourage you all to come by and get some portraits done and have some fun, because this place truly is magical. The magic in the air is electrifying, and when Desiree works, you can feel her raw passion for what she does and I think that is my favourite of all Desiree's amazing qualities. Working with Adam and Karen was also awesome as they were both so kind and helpful when I was struggling or had any clarifying questions to ask.

The amount of photography I have learned over the time I was here has been fantastic! I can now meter light with a handheld meter, work the "Black Box" for all the studio lighting, can comfortably operate Adobe Lightroom 3 with ease, can comfortably shoot in Manual mode, and even learned how to do business taxes! Having the chance to work with such an esteemed professional who truly cares for her craft and loves what she does, makes me want to pursue this career even more knowing that there are other people just as passionate for photography as I am. I will miss coming here everyday, and will miss everyone very much!

I also want to thank Desiree for helping me with my own photography endeavours, all the advice she has given me, making appropriate prices for prints, and learning how to approach and handle issues or concerns with customers in a polite and professional manner.

Merci beaucoup, Desiree. Tu es une belle personne, et l'amour tu as pour sa profession est merveilleuse! Bonne chance avec votre projets futurs!

Starry, Starry Night

Hey Everyone,

We have all been pretty excited today, setting up the set for Starry Night for our first promotion of the year! All the stars have been stuck, and the fluff has been fluffed and we're all ready for our first little munchkin to come and read a bedtime story!

Seems it's cooled down as well this last couple of days. The snow decided to appear early this afternoon and now we're covered in a fresh blanket of powder- great for all the skiers and snowboarders out there! Unfortunately, for all of us daily workday commuters, the powder over ice seems to be a bit of a dilemma, and a safety risk. We hope you all get to work safely this morning! I think it's best to arrive alive then to arrive on time... although some bosses may object to that statement! Anyway, even the sun seems to have come out for the afternoon which is really brightening up the ambiance and removing that dull dark look from the sky. This weather is perfect for taking picturesque winter landscape pictures. Although despite the weather we all still keep on trucking with our Canadian immunity to the snow and cold. All I can say is thank goodness for heated car seats!!!

Back to the topic at hand- starry night! This set is a beautiful night scene with the child sitting atop a fluffy white cloud with his pjs and his teddy bear, with the moon and stars behind him (or her!). I personally love this one because of how timeless it is. It's a classic pose, with a fun theme integrated right in!

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to do a quick update and to say: HAPPY FRIDAY! Although some may have the belief that Friday the 13th is unlucky, I consider it the same as every other day, with the sun shining and setting to reveal the moon at night. Somebody once told me a very wise phrase and that was "no matter how bad or good your day is, the number of hours in a day will never change" meaning, no matter what happens during the day, always expect the sun to rise in the East and set in the West. I tend to think of that during days where I need a little "pick-me-up", or even to think about perspective in my life.

We have lots going on recently, all which will be revealed shortly! Yes, I know, you're all dying to know, but I am sworn to secrecy until the day which it will be released. All I can tell you is that it's going to be great, and you all will love it! We've been working really hard this last week making the schedule and the preparations for all the marketing and media, so we are really hoping that you all enjoy what we have to offer this year! :)

Welcome Back! Bienvenue!

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to wish everyone a happy return back to the real world after all that holiday madness! Hope your holiday was everything you had wished it to be this year, and that you have many more prosperous holidays to come. All of us at Your Eye On Photo had enough to do this holiday, and it feels great to be back in the swing of things!

So, there's lots coming up in 2012 that we have planned! We have lots of upcoming Tattle Tales Promos that will be posted on Facebook and our official website once we have everything finalized and ready for you. We have high hopes this year for lots of happy clients, and already have had calls regarding events they would like us to participate in, so we are most definitely off to a positive start this year.

The weather doesn't seem to be what we were all wishing for, sadly. If this seems to be the most of what we're getting this year, we're getting off easy! For us here in Caledon, we had a fairly white Christmas and a sprinkle of snow this new years eve, unlike some others in the GTA that unfortunately had mostly a green Christmas season this year. So much for the picturesque Canadian Holiday Season, eh? I have barely had any time, or appropriate winter weather to take some of my own personal shots, since we seem to have only been blessed with mostly rain and ice.

But never the less, we are back in business! If you haven't called yet and wish to, we are back to our normal store hours and would be more than happy to speak with you regarding any future or past endeavours that we have done together.

Saying Goodbye To The Year!

Hey everyone,

Just doing an update for today, and have an announcement to make! On our last day in the studio (Friday December 16th) all of us are rejoicing to celebrate what a wonderfully successful year we've had. We are gonna get some pizza from across the wall (Airport Pizza) and have a really fun afternoon together before we part for the Holidays. Of course this is an open invitation, and if any of our beloved clients want to join us in our celebration, they are all more than welcome! We're hoping for a really fun day together to look back on our successful year together. As you know, this isn't the end of the studio forever, we will be returning on the 10th of January, so if you have any orders you still need to come and pick up, we will be back and happy to serve you :)

This week has been pretty busy, all of us are doing our last minute work in the studio before our break. Desiree is doing processing and contest submitting, as she is glued to her screen working her magic for almost all day. Lunch seems to be the only time we have to really wind down and take a mental break from all the filing, year end taxes, and general tid bits of things to do before we close up shop for the season. Adam and Karen and I are working really hard on processing all the expenses, which seems to be most of the hectic work around here. Boy, am I ever looking forward to when I have to do my own taxes.... (well, not really!). Although, we're pushing through it all, getting all the last phone calls in before people start to go away for the holidays.

Recent Happenings At The Studio

Dear Followers, Clients, and Friends,

The Snow Fairy weekend that I talked about in my last post went very well! All the little ones were wonderful, and both the children and I had a real blast with all the props and little adventures! The book in our front window has been changed, finally, since our grand opening of our new location 18 months ago! We have our little Tattle Tales 'Starry Night' scenes as our new "chapter" for the next little while. We're hoping to change it more often, and continue to add pages until we have a beautiful story of all our wonderful clients.

One of our Tattle Tales themed portraits for Children. This one is called Little Snow Elf. Isn't he just angelic in this picture? His expression is really great, and he was amazing to work with!

Just recently, we have a new co-op student here to help out with shoots and do receptionist work- as well as learning the tips and tricks of studio photography. Welcome, Sarah! We hope you enjoy your time here with us!

So, the new year is coming, and so is Christmas Break. Lucky us, we're taking a little more time off to spend with our cherished family and friends, and wish for you all to do the same. We will begin a fresh start to a promising new year, and maybe fulfil some resolutions along the way! Christmas is so important, not just as a religious base, but to really make time to celebrate and give thanks with your family. It gives us a chance to congregate and share laughs. Another way you can see this approaching, is through the beauty of the snow falling. Although that leads to cold, it is always a shared delight by sitting beside the fire with a blanket and a warm beverage to wind down in the evenings. Having a Tassimo Brewer at the studio is really convenient for that! Also having a fantastic fireplace to stand beside on the chillier days is always a favourite.

With everything rolling along, from all of us at Your Eye On Photo, we would like to wish you all a very happy holidays, and a happy and prosperous new year for many years to come!

November has gotten pretty full already. it is true that going away for a Mexico wedding makes the month that much shorter but still. There is a snow fairy week end November 17 to 19 and a bunch of new products to get for clients.
We did not get as many Dancers as expected so we shortened the week end. That is next week end.
FAMILY PHOTOS AND GREETING CARDS
We have put a week end aside specifically for family photos. We can do them on location here in beautiful Caledon. We already have a couple of location picked out. If you were thinking of greeting cards, please book your session soon to avoid dessapointment.

Fashion Edition

Wedding Stories are great. Everyone holds a piece of the story. It might take a long time before the whole day is pieced together. The photography is so important if only to help with the missing pieces.

there is some of the photography that is hard to do on the day of the wedding. Even though I sometimes see the bride that wants to get that GREAT shot done, she is worried about her dress. Especially if it's a chiffon dress... There is no time to wash the dress and certainly no time to mend the dress. And besides, you want to make your entrance and show off your dress...

Here is an example of Fashion Edition shots done on a day other than the wedding day.
If you get the urge... You can get a Fashion Edtition shoot done anytime after your wedding day. Whether the day after or weeks after your wedding day.

The point of this shoot is not to "trash" your dress. But think about it, what are you going to do with your dress? Wouldn't you love to see yourself in a fashion type image wearing your fabulous dress? How about lying on the ground or climb a tree or lie down in the woods or even go for a dip with your gorgeous dress on? the dress might even survive unscathed since the point is not to give it a rough treatment on purpose.

Summing up the last few months

I know...   Bad blogger, again!!! Instead of posting every week, I seem to post every month... In a way this also means that we were so busy at the studio (and on location) that there wasn't even one minute to update.

LIVING SOCIAL and TATTLE TALES
So here it is. Since the last post, We have had the Living Social promo wrapping up and we sold 43 "Deals" :)   More than half the participants have now booked their session. We have opened up the promo to include other Tattle Tales in addition to the Wood Fairy that was planned. As a result, we have planned all the Tattle Tales until the end of 2011 already. It wasn't easy choosing which of our 14 themes would be featured. We have tried to stay within the age appropriate range originally offered. The Baby Girl Bath that is scheduled for June is the exception. This theme had been planned before the LS promo. We have scheduled the Wood's Fairy again in September and opened the following themes: Fishin' Hole, On the Stage, Teddy Bear Picnic, and the Snow Fairy,

Also since the last post, I have covered 4 events on location - and one more wedding next week end- :) We have also had 3 family shoots, one maternity and a newborn session in the studio . Many of these images are now on our web sites.

FASHION EDITION
In collaboration with Gown and Glory consignment boutique, a Fashion Edition photo shoot was drawn. the lucky winner this year was Julia Taylor. We shot at the Albion Orchards here in Caledon. graciously offered by owner Scott Luneau. I will be posting images soon.

WEDDINGS
Jeanette and Troy's big wedding on June 4th all went well considering... It started off with a very wet day. then, a zipper emergency... Nothing stopped us though. All went well and the weather got as good as it gets! After the ceremony here in Caledon East, we posed and had fun with the bridal party and the bride and groom at the gorgeous "Adamson's Estate" in Mississauga. I can't seem to find a web site with photos of the Adamson's So I will make a point to show it here on my blog.
I am looking forward to Gaetana and Stewart's wedding coverage next week end at the beautiful Royal Ambassador in Caledon

It's fun to get them to loosen up and get their expressions just as they really are. At the viewing session, when the parents say, "This is really him/her" I know I've captured their essence.

New Year, New Goals

In the past, Like many people, I felt compelled to re-start my life at the beginning of every year. I made resolutions aimed at cleaning up every area of my life. But this system does not quite work, does it? It's a get-results-quick scheme... Two years ago, I realized what does work. "Slow and Consistant" as much as one can handle on a regular basis is more solid than "Quick and Crammed". It's less of a shock for the system, the body, the mind and the emotional balance. Therefore, there are more chances to keep it up.

So, instead of drastic resolutions, Gentle moving Goals is what has panned out for me. I write down Goals and break them down into little steps that I can take to make it happen. Breaking down one big project into small little projects seems to make goals more attainable and maybe less abstract. The efforts are more consistant and become part of my life. If the goal invloves a habit change, I change only one at the time. It's easier to keep it up.

So far, I have accomplished so much including moving the photo studio out of the house and into a comercial space. When I look back at my notes, I see how I have progressed. I re-visit my "Goals book" every few months. This allows me to fine tune some goals and is often a pleasant reminder of my accomplishments.

There is another fun thing to do that I learned at a workshop last year. Write yourself a letter describing where you see yourself in a year form now. Put your letter in a self addressed and stamped envelope and give it to a friend you trust and ask them to mail it to you in one year. I can not wait to receive my letter. it's due in a few months.

Despite all this reasoning, the new year still prompts me to take on new goals. My goals this year include

Get all my new web sites up and running (already started, one day a week)
Add 8 to 10 new Tattle Tales
Have new and exciting products for my Tattle Tales and Wedding clients. Hint: Great images illustrate great tales, great tales make great books

This does not mean everything will be done in the first month of the year, though. Remember, my slow and consistant philosophy...

Presenting our newest Tattle Tales

Sitting on the Moon

Just created last week and it has already been well received...

The kids had a good time on the set. They told me so ! They also told me something I din't expect, They had a good time seeing themselves on the finished photos at the viewing session. The children were happy, Mom and Dad were happy and so I am happy too.

This new Theme has not been scheduled yet but will be in the new year. I am preparing a new web site for 2011 where the Tattle Tales will be more prominent. There will also be more of them. We are now up to five different themes and they will take turns being featured. Now, they can be seen here.

Taking advantage of the "Tattle Tales Days" makes so much sense. The fact that one particular theme is being photographed over a period of 2 or 3 days, makes it possible for the studio to set up and set down the decor only once and therefore offer a sizeable discount. Keep an eye on the website in january to see which Tattle Tales will be next.

funny thing about Christmas preps

It's true that most people are not ready to hear Christmas music in stores in November or buy Christmas wrapping in October... But when December rolls around, all you hear are comments like "Done your Christmas shopping yet? " When was that supposed to happen???

More important then the shopping, for me, is the family Christmas card. For years, we would make a big do of taking our family photo. I would usually have to nag and threaten everyone that they had to be here, dressed well and be happy about it. this is the normal order of things.

I would set up the camera on the tripod, have the studio lights on the stands. Look in the viewfinder gather everyone, set up the photo I would say " Leave room for me right here" then, look in the viewfinder again, set the self timer, cock the shutter and....run in and count down.  My hair would usually look out of place and I would have a frozen look on my face but, I had captured the family and that is what was important.

We sent out all kinds of cards ove the years. Christmas cards with a long text written by hand in each one.   or stick a photo of the family with a photocopied newsletter accompanying it. or a family photo and a personal note. The point was to keep in touch with friends we don't see that often anymore and certainly with family that we weren't going to visit that year.

I was looking for a formula that would be informative and at the same time fun and light to read. I also like a challenge. I like to come up with a new pose or decor or something different every year.   We've done some pretty good ones over the years. Sometimes all dressed up somtimes casual.

But three years ago, we found our groove.  and now, for our fourth year we are now sending out our signature "Magazine Style" Christmas card and everyone loves it. there is just enough family events and just enough photos to keep everyone in the know. People call to ask if it;s in the mail yet. Lol...

I will post those here after I have this new one sent off. I certainly don't want to reveal this year's card here and spoil the surprise. It will be going out in the next few days. Thanks to the whole family's efforts. Ithink it looks great !

As far as the shopping goes, I prefer to collect things throughout the year. That way, by December most of what I thought of is already here.

Baking and cooking are in the planning, we've decorated yesterday and Christmas is on it's merry way...

Are you really prepared for your wedding day?

At one of my interviews this week, with a beautiful bridal couple, after talking about the obvious... Photography for their wedding day, we starting touching on all other aspects of their day. Preparing your wedding day Vs being prepared FOR your wedding day.

Preparing your day... A lot of planning. The venue, the ceremony location, the photographer and THE Gown... whew ! Exhausting. then come the details, rings, flowers, cake, food, music, decor ect... Lots of sleepless nights, arguments and excitment. even the arguments are somehow exciting. This is going to be the most important day of your life. Not scared are you?

Now that you think you are all prepared, you've only just begun. Even though you have dozens of details already co-ordinated, there is fine tuning you still need to think about and maybe even practice ahead of time.

Most couples will have a chance to practice or rehearse their ceremony, the hair and makeup for the brides, and countless fittings for the bride and the bridesmaids and probably even the groom and the groomsmen.

Here are things many couples are not prepared for: How to tie your dress... oh yeah, the lady at the shop said you do this first and then, I think this????? Do not leave it until wedding morning. Have the maid of honnor practive this with you; Have you tried to put on this particular veil before the day of the wedding? You will have a trial for your hair and makeup. Why not bring the veil with you and figure out exactly how it's supposed to go on. How does your train butle up. Are you wearing a vintage kind of dress, shoes, Are you coming in on a horse? Have you ridden a horse wearing a gown before? How about, the first dance? have you ever danced together before? How about basic dance lessons?

Even the toss of the bouquet you can practice in your backyard. Set a bowl on a table or the top of the stairs and turn your back to it. Pratice tossing an artificial bouquet into it. You will be surprised...

Halloween

Canada being my adoptive country, halloween seemed strange to me as a kid. We did not celebrate or had even heard of Halloween in Egypt, the country where I was born. We did go to masquerade balls but there was no candy involved and it wasn't about wearing scarry costumes.

I now know the origins of this celebration and even though the essence of it is long forgotten, I can see why some people prefer to bypass the holiday all together. I must admit, it is not my favorite holiday. And now that my children are all grown up and no longer go trick or treating, I didn't really feel like getting into the spirit of it.

Nonetheless, I was curious to see what was left of my old decorations. Despite my shabby display, I made sure I had a litup pumpkin to signify that "We were giving candy" . I am glad I was home to receive the little muchkins. It was such a pleasure to see their little faces - or masks - light up and hear their gleeful voices say "Thank you."

Yesterday on Halloween night, distributing candy to little ones was one more opportunity to appreciate the fact that I am Canadian and that I live in a great country.

Google Earth

For someone who is at her computer a considerable amount of time this is almost ironic...
I just discovered "Google Earth" last week. I new about the maps and the "street views" but it had never occured to me to look at maps or streets in other towns, let alone other countries.

A friend showed me how to get on Google Earth and zoom into the area I wanted to "visit". The views improve in many towns daily as they are able to add features like street view. After a bit of exploration in my neighbourhood, I decided to see Paris and London, where I had spent so much time over my 30 years as a flight attendant. Then I wondered if it would be possible to go visit the town where I was born and lived until the age of 9 years old. I got excited at the tought of traveling all the way to Egypt and all from right here at my desk. So I just hopped...to Port Said.

Amazing... Fantastic... I was able to go to the beach where I spent so much time as a child. I visited our church and my old school. One can see photos that other people have posted of a specific area. There's a new creative and useful use for travel photos. Not to mention great exposure - Pun intended-
Even though "Street View" is not available in Port Said yet, I was able to trace back my steps from the time I got lost - or so everyone thought - at the age of 7 and found my way home. From Port Fouad accross the Suez Canal to Port Said. This was some trip down memory lane!

Google Earth is a great way to check out cities, towns, resorts, attractions ect... before planning you next vacation. Or even your next photo shoot.

I undrestand that I have yet to dicover how to dive underwater and fly in the sky. Technology is amazing when put to good use!

I Had a great time with my hubby at the Shaw festival this past week. We really enjoyed Niagara on the lake and the Oscar Wilde play we saw: " An Ideal Husband". The play was clever and amusing. very entertaining. The costumes were true to the victorian high society and a pleasure to see. The set, on many levels was elaborate and evocative. Judy Bowden's designs made the whole experience inspiring for me. I truly enjoyed this play. But don't take my word for it check out some reviews.

I had a great time shooting Christina and Eric's wedding last night. Despite a wobbly start, all turned out O.K. He had to go back for something and it was a long distance away. He got back to the church 5 minutes before the ceremony Whew!!!!
We had to compensate a bit and started a few minutes late, but all in all, It turned out pretty good. I am looking forward to showing some sneak peeks here soon!

Life Priorities

Funny how time flies... Just got a week off. Mom came and spent a week with us. It seemed like 2 days! We went places, did things, went to the beach on the only day it wasn't a scortcher. LOL
We did manage to go to my favorite restaurant... Rebekha's Sushi Restaurant. Went to the one in Bolton this time. What a good time and good food!

I am glad I took that time even though I have a lot of work to do. Sometimes, you have to make room for life priorities.

It's time to go back to work. lots to do today. Shoot tomorrow and next week will be full too. I will post samples as we go! Have a great week end all!

Is this summer?

Just went out for an engagement photo shoot. We wanted to add images from the time we got rainned out. Well, we couldn't have picked a better day. Not only did we get fabulous weather, but I think we got great shots... I guess the trick is wait by the door and hurry outside when you see the weather you want. Lol...

Had the best meal at Rebekha's Sushi restaurant! This time at the Orangeville one. It's at the old train station. Wheter this one or the one in Bolton, - At the 4 corners - It is such a nice experience. Great food, Sushi, Sashimi and my favorite... Age Dash Mmmm... We always seem to go for the boat though... Nice staff and a great dining experience! Kampai!

High School Senior - Teen Photo shoot

I love photography and I love to share. I recently discovered that I have a need to tell about things especially when they go well. I mean write about them. I also like to share my photos... and other things.

For starters, I will post some sneak previews of a High School Senior photo shoot I did recently. I remember those years. I remember how great it felt to have finally finished high school. And i remember how scary it was to not know what was happening next. I remember not looking this good too... lol!

We had a lot of fun. We put on some loud music... ( I need to get better music for next time)
